Walking in the Woods

Hey there. Glad you landed on my site.

My name is Michal, born in Slovakia, actually at that time it was still Czechoslovakia, which lies in the middle of Europe. you might have heard of mountains called High Tatars, which are in the north part of the country, right at the border with Poland. The mountain has 29 peaks which are higher than 2,500 meters (more than 8,200 feet).

When I was in early teen age I started with Karate. Each summer we went for 10 days to countryside, very close to the woods and as part of training we did hiking at least twice in the 10 days session. At that time I was not very fan of it, but I had to do that since coach said so.

By the time I got to University I stopped doing the sport which was shame. I moved to Prague, because of the job then further to west, like Hamburg. Also I was quite a long time in Toulouse. There I had a chance to visit Pyrenees several times – well by car only.

After more than 10 years working outside of my homeland I moved back. We have woods here in our region, just few hundreds meter from the house. I was not doing any exercise, from time to time I forced myself to go running but not very often. And as I remember I was watching the Bear Grylls show Man vs. Wild and Escape to the Legion. I was realizing that I should start to move again. I did slowly, when the weather was nice in the summer. Then also autumns and winters got interested. We started with my girlfriend as well. We ended up doing some long hours hiking in the region. Some of them took more than 10 hours. In the spring or autumn the temperature goes from 10 degrees to 25 degrees during the day so you want to have a good cloths, where your body stays dry.

I am getting more and more to the details of proper hiking clothes, especially fast drying materials. I will be doing more research and testing shirts and other kind of clothes. You can find some practical information here, which can help you to enjoy your hiking.

I hope you will find many interesting stuff here, which will help you to decide.

All the best,
Michal – Mike
